IMP (Interplanetary monitoring platform). A series of NASA probes, managed by the Goddard Space Flight Center, aimed at investigating plasma (ionized gas) and magnetic fields in interplanetary space. The placement of IMPs in a variety of solar and Earth orbits enabled the study of spatial and temporal relationships of geophysical and interplanetary phenomena simultaneously by several spacecraft.

Vineland Social Maturity Scale: a scale designed to assess social maturity in terms of the ability to come to terms with one's social needs and assume responsibility. Norms are available up to age twenty-five. One scale may also be used with younger or retarded people. A "social age" (SA) and a "social quotient" may be answered from the 117 items. The Vineland Social Maturity Scale, originally developed by Edgar A. Doll, represented an early attempt to measure social competence. Doll defined social competence as "a functional composite of human traits which subserves social usefulness as reflected in self-sufficiency and in service to others." This aspect of human behavior has also been termed adaptive behavior and has been incorporated as a major component in the definition of mental retardation.

Dans les sources consultées et dans la base de données PASCAL, le titre anglais de cette échelle bien connue en psychiatrie n'est pas traduit en français. Néanmoins le terme «comportement adaptatif» est bien consacré, d'où la proposition «échelle de comportement adaptatif de Vineland».

A water pasteurisation indicator (WAPI) is a simple thermometer that indicates when water has reached pasteurisation temperature and is safe to drink. It consists of a small polycarbonate tube that contains a soybean wax that melts when water or milk is heated enough to be pasteurised (65 ˚C/149 ˚F).

Un [indicateur de pasteurisation de l'eau (WAPI)] est simplement un petit tube en polycarbonate qui contient une cire spéciale. Une rondelle ou un poids en métal sur le petit appareil maintient le WAPI immergé lorsqu'il est placé dans une casserole d'eau qui est chauffée. Lorsque l'eau atteint le point de pasteurisation, la cire en haut du tube fond et se déplace vers le bas du tube. Une fois que toute la cire est fondue et au fond du tube, l'eau est suffisamment pasteurisée et prête à boire.
